Objective Dental Care Unmet Needs and associated Factors: Implications for National Health Insurance Benefit Package

Abstract
Objectives : Coverage rate of dental care under National Health Insurance was lower than total rate. This study was to conducted to investigate the prevalence of objective unmet needs based on the result of oral examination and to examine factors associated them.

Method : Objective needs of teeth surface treatment, endodontic treatment, surgical extraction, and denture were evaluated in this study. Data from the Fifth Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a population-based, cross-sectional study was used in this study. Participants included 7,836 Koreans.

Results and Conclusion : The results for objective unmet needs suggested that low income or rural area residing individuals or medicaid were more likely to experience objective unmet need, compared to high income or urban area residing individuals or employee National Health Insured. The findings of this study suggest that coverage of dental care should be expanded and benefit package modified.
